Bixby Library - The library began with money left by local businessman, Willima Bixby, in his estate to build and maintain a public library that to serve the five towns of Addison, Ferrisburgh, Panton, Vergennes, and Waltham. The building was designed by Frederick Frost of Trowbridge and Livingstone and built by W. Shelton Swallow both of New York. The cornerstone was laid on September 21, 1911. Permanent exhibits include the Bilhuber Indian artifacts, local arrowheads, and military artifacts from the American Revolution and Civil War. www.vergennes.org/bixby

On exhibit, at the Birds of Vermont Museum, are more than 445 biologically accurate wooden carvings of over 250 species of birds, including Vermont's nesting birds in natural habitat displays with actual nests and wooden eggs, wetland birds, raptors, a gallery of extinct and endangered birds of North America. Sail with us aboard the classic sloop Friend Ship, Lake Champlain's only U.S. Coast Guard certified sailing vessel. She is termed a Friendship Sloop and was built in Southwest Harbor Maine in 1981.
